Fly Killing Machines

For your information and to enable you to select the correct machine for your particular circumstance the following information will be useful.

  • Fly killing machines vary in their U/V output and since it is ultra violet light (that we cannot see) that attracts insects it is important that you buy a machine with enough output to compete with the ambient U/V in your premises.
  • Ambient Ultra Violet light enters your premises via many routes including windows, skylights and strip lighting. Your fly killing machine needs to be powerful enough to compete with these sources.
  • Ultra Violet light attacks plastic causing it to become brittle and potentially increasing the risk of physical contamination as small fragments can snap off.
  • The output of the bulbs in your fly killing machines degrades over 12 months and these should be changed annually. This is the reason that the EHO will often ask when the bulbs were last replaced. Do not forget we cannot see Ultra Violet light your blue bulb may be on but that is all it is – a blue bulb.
  • It is generally frowned upon to site fly killing machines over food prep surfaces because of the potential risk of contamination. Hillbans supply a range of glue board machines specifically for this circumstance.
  • It is critical that you fit the correct machine in the correct location.
  • Hillbans Pest Control are happy to carry out a free survey to advise on the appropriate machine for your premises.
